Ottawa’s food trucks are revving their engines, getting ready to rally and park their wheels in one location for one afternoon of tantalizing tastings. Get ready for the first annual family-friendly Ottawa Food Truck Rally, coming to the corner of Rochester and Pamilla on September 28th from noon to 4:00pm. Yes, it is a Saturday, an open canvas day for parents. Let this event answer the early-morning question, “what are we doing with the kids today?”
This is a chance to taste and compare a variety of recipes our city’s mobile food scene has to offer and introduce your kids to a wealth of whacky flavours. Parents can wash it all down with a cold local brew or cider. Kids can sip natural soda to their heart’s content. Jump from truck to truck. Meet the chefs. Learn about this food truck culture that’s changing how urbanites eat. Teach your kids about entrepreneurship. Just eat and be happy.
When we say there is something for everyone in the family, we mean it. Ottawa School of Art instructors will be on site to encourage and guide kids – of all ages – to get creative in hands-on activities.
And, the best part of it all, the Rally will fund a scholarship for an Ottawa Community Housing tenant to attend Algonquin College’s culinary arts program for one year.
Organizing partners are the Ottawa Food Truck Rally, OCH Foundation & Domicile – all local groups interested in building strong communities. Tell your neighbours and friends to meet you there. Tell your kids you’re going out to eat, craft and enjoy an afternoon out.
